For more than three decades, Marlon Martin, known to audiences as Brother Marlon, has used media to inform, inspire, entertain, and serve his community. His broadcasting journey began in 1992 at Washington & Jefferson College and soon led him to Pittsburgh’s WAMO, where listeners first knew him as Sean Richards. Throughout his career, he has hosted programs including The Breakfast Jam, The Quiet Storm, and Club 106. Today, he is the host of I Praise on WAMO 107.3, continuing a relationship with Pittsburgh radio that has spanned generations. After committing his life to ministry in 1997, Marlon’s work in broadcasting took on a greater purpose. As a once ordained minister, he has used radio as a platform for encouragement, faith, and service. In 2014, that ministry expanded nationally when he joined the Sheridan Gospel Network, eventually serving as Program Director and host of the nationally syndicated Brother Marlon Show, sharing “Inspiration, Laughter and Praise” with listeners across the country. His broadcasting career has also included WGBN, WPGR, and WORD FM. But Marlon’s work in media extends well beyond the microphone. A turntable DJ since 1993, DJ Marvelous has provided the soundtrack for countless weddings, festivals, conferences, community celebrations, and special events throughout Pittsburgh and beyond. He is also an accomplished photographer with more than 20 years of professional experience and hundreds of assignments to his credit. As a freelance photographer and contributor for the New Pittsburgh Courier, Marlon has documented news, community events, entertainment, and especially sports. His photography has appeared in publications beyond Pittsburgh and internationally, including the Standard Times in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In 2026, his work earned second place for Sports Action Photography from the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association. A true multimedia professional, Marlon’s creative work also encompasses television, videography, graphic and web design, audio production, voice-over, live sound, lighting, and production. Together with his wife, Ellise, he owns Marlee Communications, providing photography, video, audio, design, web, printing, and multimedia services. Throughout his career, Marlon has remained deeply committed to the community that helped shape him. His service has been recognized through numerous honors, including the 1998 WAMO African American Heritage Award as part of The Breakfast Jam, a Pennsylvania State proclamation recognizing 25 years in radio, the New Pittsburgh Courier’s 2019 Men of Excellence, the 2025 Circle of Courage Award, and recognition from Stop the Violence Pittsburgh for his work supporting community festivals, Juneteenth celebrations, the Soul Food Festival, and Black History programming. Whether behind a microphone, turntables, a camera, a soundboard, or working behind the scenes to bring someone else’s vision to life, Brother Marlon has spent his career telling stories, capturing moments, building community, and using media with purpose. He is the son of the late Douglas and Ercell Martin, father to Marlon II, Jason, Ephraim, and Caleb, and proud “Pappy” to Josyia. Grounded in faith, family, creativity, and service, Marlon continues to live by one of his favorite passages, Psalm 34:1: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
